Do you want to be at the heart of Spotify’s mission to unlock the creator economy by helping artists get paid? We’re looking for a Staff Engineer to join our team to help us define, architect, integrate, and build the payments capabilities that empower our industry-facing products.

As one of the most senior individual contributors on the team, you will work as a technical leader across the commerce domain, ensuring that our solutions are scalable and sustainable. You'll get to help grow the team by promoting best practices, supporting and contributing to key projects, and mentoring engineers.
What you'll do
- Plan, architect, design, develop, deploy, document, and operate backend data systems and services.
- Deliver testable, maintainable, high-quality code.
- Collaborate with cross-discipline stakeholders to unlock payment capabilities for Spotify teams.
- Make tradeoffs between near-term needs and long-term tech health.
- Lead technical discovery across complex commerce-related systems.
- Author and circulate technical RFCs to document approaches.
- Take part in daily, weekly, and monthly squad rituals.
- Coach and mentor engineers via working sessions, and perform code reviews and architectural reviews.
Who you are
- You love to code and design systems.
- You have 10+ years of Java experience.
- You have architecture and development experience in backend engineering (data a plus).
- You are an experienced technical leader in agile software engineering teams.
- You are a strong communicator, able to navigate ambiguity, and exercise good judgment when making decisions.
- You thrive on solving complex problems in an iterative fashion, delivering frequent tactical wins while making progress towards longer-term strategic goals.
- You’ve worked on large-scale payments or commerce systems.
Where you'll be
- We are a NY-based team that collaborates with teams in Stockholm and London. We operate within the Eastern time zone.
- We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
- Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location.
