Everyday, hundreds of millions of people all over the world use the products we build which include destinations like “Home” and “Search” as well as original playlists such as "Discover Weekly" and “Daily Mix.” We're a team of technologists, product insight experts, designers, and product managers in Boston, New York, Stockholm, and London.
This is a unique opportunity for an Engineer Manager to drive recommendations across some of Spotify’s biggest playlists amounting to a significant percentage of overall Spotify consumption. From “Daily Mix”, “Radio”, to Artist / Genre / Mood / Decade personalized “Mixes” you will have a large impact on how we power these sets, our next generation of listening experiences, and the platform we’re building out to support them. You’ll be collaborating with top industry experts in improving our recommendations, building out key infrastructure and improving the listening experience of hundreds of millions of users.
What You'll Do
- You will help build a team of Backend, Data and ML Engineers, and lead through hiring, coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development
- You will provide guidance and collaborate with engineers and product managers on personalized recommendations, machine learning, and engineering best practices
- In partnership with a product manager and team of engineers, build a tech stack which supports our next generation recommender services to improve the listening experience for all the users
- You will support the engineering team in formulating the technical vision and strategy for our technology stack
- Grow a highly effective engineering team with focus on our future recommendations platform and machine learning
Who You Are
- You thrive when developing great people and phenomenal products
- You have experience in cultivating a strong engineering culture in an agile environment
- You have previous experience building production-scale platforms
- You do not need to have an ML engineering background, but do have experience working in an ML environment
- You are an experienced manager with strong people skills and leadership experience
- You care about agile software processes, ML and data-driven development, reliability, and responsible experimentation
- You’re familiar with the audio streaming industry trends and keep up with the latest product offerings, and can understand trade-offs of existing solutions
- Music domain expertise is a plus

- Working hours? We operate within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration and ask that all be located in that time zone.
