This powerhouse team will be accountable for delivering technology projects and production support to Advertising revenue, and other go-to-market (GTM) functions, ultimately helping them grow revenue and ensure that it is all accounted for. This role will join the Financial Engineering Mission (FinE), and partner with five other Product Areas to accelerate Spotify's growth and performance.
As a Director of Engineering, you will work closely with your Product counterpart to define and implement a healthy and progressive product and technology strategy that improves our reach and impact for the business. You will also drive impact through the Senior Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers who report to you by promoting sound engineering practices, driving work on technical strategy and roadmaps, regularly assessing the technical state of teams, advocating for standard methodologies broadly, and providing focused mentoring to teams. You will help ensure that our solutions are scalable, balanced, and architecturally sound, and that technical debt is both incurred consciously and repaid in a reasonable time.
What you'll do
- Be a technical leader and valued contributor in an autonomous, multi-functional agile team and within Spotify in general.
- Be accountable for the technical vision and long-term technology strategy for our Global GTM teams, who deliver Spotify’s advertising revenue. Work closely with your product counterpart and other various partners to define the product vision and long-term product strategy. Define the technical capabilities required to achieve that product strategy.
- Create and implement a technology strategy that will match the fastest-growing part of Spotify’s business. Own the product and the platform - from technical design and development to the support and maintenance of it. We call it the PLAN, BUILD, and RUN model.
- Lead a group of dedicated engineers who architect, develop, and operate APIs and back-end services supporting hundreds of millions of users.
- Lead and support the Spotify-wide backend and client developer community, influencing and driving our architecture across the company.
- Grow the relationships with our team’s many partners across Business Operations, Accounting, Internal Audit, and other leaders within Financial Engineering.
- Enable learning and knowledge sharing across the organization, leveling up our engineering practices, and mentoring other specialists.
- Manage both developed (in-house) and best-of-breed SaaS solutions.
- Initiate, influence, and drive technical projects across teams within Spotify.
Who you are
- Proven experience as a technical leader for Engineering Managers and Senior Managers, as the leader of an Engineering organization driving significant impact. You understand how to lead and inspire others.
- Prior to becoming a technical leader, you have extensive experience working hands-on as a Software Engineer in an agile environment.
- Experience mentoring and supporting peers and engineering teams, fostering the best engineering practices.
- Possess a deep understanding of how to translate product and business goals into tech strategies.
- Strong understanding of system design, and experience leading staff and principal engineers. You are conversant in some of the following: data engineering, platform development, integrations, and business application architectures.
- You have solved problems that affect the larger company engineering organization as well as your own organization.
- Excited about developing products for hundreds of millions of consumers and platforms that are used by hundreds of engineers.
- Demonstrated ability to create order out of chaos.
- Passionate about what you do and have a high interest in keeping up with current best practices in your areas of expertise.
- As an inspirational leader with strong communication skills, you love sharing your knowledge with others and helping them grow.
- Possess technical leadership knowledge where you can showcase your expertise by speaking at both internal and external conferences.
Where you'll be
- We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
- Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location
- Prefer an office to work from home instead? Not a problem! We have plenty of options for your working preferences. Find more information about our Work From Anywhere options here.
